What is DDI?


As it is very popular in IT land, DDI is an acronym of other abbreviations. DDI is a combination of DNS, DHCP and IPAM. It describes the integration of these three core components of networking into one management solution.

  • Domain Name System - DNS: assures the association of hostnames and IP addresses. DNS enables access routing to almost all applications and services to keep HTTP web traffic and network traffic flowing.
  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - DHCP: provides dynamic IP address assignment for nodes logging into the network, together with configuration capability automatically inherited from the address plan tree.
  • IP Address Management - IPAM: supports these critical technologies by enabling efficient management of IP addresses across the network.

When do you need DDI?

When DNS, DHCP, and IPAM are managed separately, there are inherent risks. However, with a solution in a centralised location, network administrators get visibility and control of their network from a single pane of glass.

Since DDI is integrated, many tasks are simplified for the network team. Instead of having a gap between records and actual IP address usage, records are updated in real-time.
